Cystic fibrosis and a double lung transplant didn't keep Tim Whalin from volunteering with the Harrods Creek Fire Department. Tim first expressed an interest in the fire department when he was 20. He received numerous awards such as "Firefighter of the Year" and the "Chief's Award." He functioned like any other firefighter until 1999 when he needed a double-lung transplant. Tim passed away on October 17th, 2001 at the age of 26 of viral pneumonia.
"I was privileged to call Tim a friend. He was an outstanding and dedicated firefighter. The KYFireWire would not exist today if it wasn't for his talent and dedication to the fire service." - Melanie Hilliard
